How to choose coffee beans without overthinking it
Start with the drink you make most often. For pour over and black coffee, lighter roasts usually preserve more aroma and origin character. For espresso, iced coffee and milk drinks, medium-dark and dark roasts often give more body and intensity.
Choose by flavor direction
Fruit and floral profiles are a good fit for drinkers who want a lively cup. Caramel and toffee profiles are an easy everyday middle ground. Chocolate and cocoa profiles are usually the safest route when you want a richer, more familiar cup.
Then match the brew method
Filter methods reward clarity. Espresso rewards body and balance. Milk drinks need enough intensity to remain present after milk is added.
